BACKGROUND
This beautiful home was built in 1861. It is of the American Empire Towered style and boasts 11 rooms on two floors and a full basement which appears to have some space bricked up under the front porch. The current owners have often wondered if there is anything to be found in this hidden space. The home sits on 1/2 acre and is surrounded by farmland, with no near neighbors.
The owners of this beautiful mansion have since moved to another location. They lived here for several years while their children were young, beginning around the year 2000. A lot of strange things happened while they lived at the mansion, and at least one of the family friends refused to stay the night at in the house, claiming that the house didn't like her. Their 2-year-old daughter befriended the ghosts of three children she called Johnny, Cavin and Rebecca. The description that she gave of her friends' attire seems to indicate that they were dressed for the period of the 1880's. They often played together on the second floor of the mansion. One memorable family experience occurred soon after they took up residence in the mansion, during a drive through the countryside one night. The children were asleep in the back seat when this 2-year-old awoke to inform her parents that they had just passed the the place where her "playmates" lived. She was totally unfamiliar with the area and it was pitch dark outside, but the child was adamant that this was the truth and there was no denying it. Subsequent investigation by the parents determined that there was a cemetery at that exact location. Many of the old tombstones were for children, but there were few names still legible.
The oldest daughter reported seeing the spirit of a young male ghost whom she described as "ugly", and who frightened her. He seemed to be a brooding soul, sighted only in the parlor, usually near the fireplace. Over the years the family took to calling him Jeffrey though there was no instance of him communicating to them.
The patriarch of the family reported seeing a shadow walk by his bedroom door one day and enter the room of their infant child. This occurred at a time when the child was not sleeping well and was making noises. The father followed shortly thereafter and discovered that the child had been neatly tucked into its blanket and was sleeping soundly. He was at a loss for an explanation because he knew that no one else had entered the room and that the infant was incapable of tucking itself in.
The family called in Missouri Paranormal Research Society to validate that something unusual was going on in the house, and to determine the likely identities of the young children who, they feel, continue to live within its walls.

Our team arrived by 5:00 pm on Saturday, Nov 4th. We were treated to a much appreciated guided tour by the owners. It was going to be a cold night and the primary source of heat in the home was a corn furnace in the dining room, which was fueled to keep burning throughout the night. Although it burned cleanly, it would be necessary to stir or amend the corn from time to time throughout the night, causing particulate to move about the room. We made note of this and agreed that any "orb" activity discovered within or near that room would have to be discounted as particulate in the air. As most of the activity was reported in the parlor and upstairs bedrooms, this did not appear to be a great detriment to the investigation.
We set up camcorders in several of the rooms for 1/2 hour intervals, closing the doors behind us to reduce airflow and false orb activity. We focussed primarily on the fireplace area of the parlor and two bedrooms upstairs. A curtain in one bedroom was noted for being pulled open when the family was away from home, so it was closed tightly and a camcorder set up to record any movement in the room. The curtain did not move during the investigation, but not all the conditions were necessarily met. This particular activity was only known to happen when no one was at home, and the open curtain would be discovered upon the family's return. Our team did not leave the home during the investigation.
Throughout the evening many digital photo's were taken. Many "orbs" were noted in the dining room and the adjoining rooms, but these were evidently from the particulate of the corn furnace. Multiple EVP recordings were attempted in the parlor, addressing "Jeffrey", and in the upstairs bedrooms, addressing Johnny, Cavin and Rebecca. No conclusive anomylous activity was noted during the investigation by any methods used. The family has not been living in the house for many months prior to the investigation. Since the activity seemed to focus on the children, it may have halted when the children were removed from the environment.
