BACKGROUND
1069 Salon & Spa is a full-service salon located at 1069 First Capitol Drive, in St. Charles, MO. This was our second investigation at this Salon & Spa, which has been a focus of a variety of paranormal events since the original salon opened in 1990. It is unknown whether or not previous occupants of this home, built in 1907, witnessed anything of a paranormal nature. Witnesses state that the radio has a propensity to turn itself off by itself near quitting time. In 2004, while Sherry was there on a personal visit, she was speaking with a witness about the apparent paranormal activity, when the radio turned itself off. There was only one person in the room when it turned itself off, and she was sitting about 8 feet away from it. It was a surprise to everyone that it turned itself off during the work day, and that it occurred while there was discussion about the haunting, just on the other side of the wall. The radio was checked and found to be in perfect working order. The radio has also been known to change channels on its own and to increase and decrease the volume on its own. None of these effects can be blamed on electrical malfunctions.
Other incidents include hearing a baby cry on an upstairs landing, a man's angry voice heard in the basement, damage to the phone line in the basement when no one is present, slamming doors, and lights being turned on and off. One light bulb in the basement has been completely removed from its socket on at least two occasions and, on both occasions, the original bulb was never found. Product on a shelf has been swept off the shelf as though by an unseen hand, and pictures on the wall have been pulled off their hooks and dropped to the floor without apparent explanation.
Although there has been a lot of activity over the years, the incidents are intermittent and unpredictable. No pattern has been discerned for when these things happen. They occur during work hours, after work hours, and all throughout the year. Sometimes many months go by without any activity being noticed, and at other times, the activity seems to happen with greater frequency.
A search of the land records for the property yielded some interesting results. The house was built in 1907. The owners of the property from 1913 to 1921 (8 years) suffered the loss of their 18 year old son while they were living in the house, in 1818. The nature of his death is unknown at this time.
Another couple bought the house in 1942. They lived in the home for 41 years before the wife died in 1984. The husband died just two weeks after his wife.

This building is particularly difficult to effectively investigate due to its proximity to a heavily trafficked road, expansive windows, and multiple mirrors amd reflective surfaces. Mike's first impression on entering the building was that it felt very "sleepy". We set up two camcorders in the manager's office on the second floor, a room which seems to be a focus of the haunt. We left them to run there undisturbed for a little more than an hour and focused our efforts on the rest of the building. Within 5 minutes of beginning to take photo's, the fresh batteries in Eric K.'s camera went dead. He had set his camera on a table in the basement for just a moment, leaving it on, and discovered them dead upon returning. The camera lens which extends upon turning the camera on, did not retract upon losing battery power. Subsequent tests on the camera suggest that the lens should automatically retract upon power loss. After installing new batteries, the camera worked fine for the rest of the night. After the investigation, the batteries were tested and found to have full power.
Within 15 minutes, the internal battery died in Mike's night vision viewer. It miraculously came back to life once we decided to leave and were packing up our gear. One half hour into the investigation, the batteries in Eric S.' digital camera also went dead, while he was on the first floor. It is interesting to note that all the unexplained events of the investigation, occurred to the men in our group. Nothing happened around the women. The owners and employees of the Salon & Spa have noted on several occasions that the "ghost" seems to be biased against men.
At 9:15, Eric K. and Eric S. were in the upper bedroom on the southeast corner. They were watching the EMF meter as it fluctuated from zero to a spike of about 8.5 then back to zero. It seemed to peg at a regular interval. The room and the room below were investigated but no source of electrical field could be found.
At 9:45, the cameras were moved from the manager's office to the basement. The cameras were placed side by side to capitalize on the external IR light. Both cameras faced the only entrance to the basement and the back wall of the building. Within 15 minutes, Eric K.'s camcorder was switched off. Mike's camcorder picked up an audible "click" when the other camcorder was turned off, but his continued to record. Subsequent tests of Erik K.'s camcorder have not been able to reproduce the "click" sound made when the camera is turned off, without interfering with the camera manually. Loss of power to the battery causes it to cease working, but it does not generate the same audio tone. No one was recorded entering or leaving the basement after the camcorders were set-up, so this remains highly suspicious.
